A Cheap Way to Stay Warm

Having an electric heater at home helps countless families keep warm during the winter time. But having a wooden fireplace is even better. There is nothing like a warm, lively fire to keep you cozy during a cold, winter night. But if you are looking for a safer alternative to an actual wood fireplace, you can always opt for an electric fireplace.

Purchasing an electric fireplace has its own positive and negative aspects. Electric fireplaces are safer than real fireplaces as real fireplaces can become a fire hazard for the home owner. Also, electric fireplaces are very easy to move around; just unplug it and you can put it anywhere you want in your house and even bring it to your apartment or condominium unit.

Having neither smoke nor flames to think about, you do not have to tear down a wall or two to install a chimney in your house. This helps you save more money for other expenses you might need. And having an electric fireplace as opposed to having a real wooden fireplace means you don't have to buy any decor for it like wooden fireplace surrounds (or if you are buying a gas fireplace, fireplace mantel surrounds). This way you can save money for other transactions. They are also safer for the environment; they do not emit smoke or any other toxic fumes like real fireplaces making it an ideal option if the homemaker wants to go green.

These units are can also be controlled remotely; you will be saved the hassle of trying to figure out how warm you want your fire to be. It is a lot easier to maintain than a wooden fireplace; you don't need to purchase wood or clean the chimney constantly; taking out the soot is a hard task.

There are also a number of drawbacks when buying a electric fireplace. A real fireplace gives off a better feel or ambiance than having an essentially fake fireplace in your home.

Having an electric fireplace in your house does not make your house more valuable as the electric fireplace is not a permanent installation in your house, thus not increasing its value. These are also more expensive than regular electric heaters, the only advantage it has is that it is more aesthetically pleasing.

Purchasing an electric fireplace is ideal if you don't have the money to have a real fireplace installed in your home. Owning one however has its own pros and cons. They are safer, cheaper (no need to buy wood fireplace surrounds and fireplace mantel surrounds) and easy to install. But on the other hand, they are not any more different from a regular electric heater.
